Ans: A district is an administrative division of the Indian State. It is sub-divided into Tehsils or Talukas. The Government of India appoints District Collector who is in charge of the administration of the district. District Collector or District Magistrate are the officers of Indian Administrative Service and are the most powerful officers of the district. The important duty of a District Collector is to maintain law and order of the district.
