Ans: Municipal Council is the local body of a municipality. Every town is divided into wards and is represented by Municipal councillors who are elected by the voters of that particular ward. The councillors of the ward are responsible for the overall development of the town and for providing basic amenities to the residents. The main source of income of the Municipal Council is ‘Octroi’ which is collected by private contractors. Other sources of income are house tax, license fee, water supply and sewerage user charges etc.
