Q
What is Mixture
A
A mixture is a substance made up of two or more elements or compounds mixed in any ratio. The components of a mixture do not chemically react with each other, and they retain their individual properties.
Mixtures can be classified into two types:
- Homogeneous mixture – In this type, the components are uniformly mixed and cannot be seen separately. Example: salt dissolved in water.
- Heterogeneous mixture – In this type, the components are not uniformly mixed and can often be seen separately. Example: sand and water.
One common example of a gaseous mixture is air. Air contains several gases such as nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, water vapour, hydrogen, helium and other gases.
