Q
what is Sedimentation
A
Sedimentation is the process in which heavier insoluble particles settle down at the bottom of a liquid when the mixture is left undisturbed for some time.
For example, when sand is mixed with water and the mixture is left standing for some time, the sand particles settle down at the bottom of the container due to their heavier weight. This settling down of particles is called sedimentation.
Sometimes a substance called alum is added to water to make the particles settle faster. This process is known as loading. Loading helps in quick sedimentation of suspended particles.
