In biology, a tissue is a group of similar cells that work together to perform a specific function.
Cells are the building blocks tissues are the walls built from those blocks.
Four main types of animal tissue:

| Connective tissue | Supports, connects, and binds other tissues | Bone, blood, cartilage, tendons, fat |

| Nervous tissue | Transmits electrical signals | Brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves |
Plant tissues:
- Meristematic tissue actively dividing cells at root and shoot tips
- Permanent tissue vascular (transport) and dermal (protection) tissue
