The large intestine includes the cecum, appendix, colon, sigmoid colon, rectum, and anus.

• Ascending colon – right-side part that moves contents upward

• Descending colon – left-side part that moves contents downward

• Sigmoid colon – S-shaped part before the rectum

• Sigmoid flexure – bend of the sigmoid colon

• Cecum – pouch-like first part of the large intestine

• Appendix – small tube attached to the cecum

• Ileum – last part of the small intestine

• Ileocecal valve – controls movement from ileum to cecum

• Haustra – pouch-like bulges of the colon

• Taenia coli – bands of muscle on the colon
