Robert whitaker proposed Five kingdom classification, which includes five kingdoms namely-Monera, protista, fugi, plantae and animalia. 

These kingdoms are nothing but the highest taxonomic ranks. Organisms were categorized as per their characteristic features, these groups are formed on basis of level of similarities. Amongst all the categories, kingdoms is the top most hierarchy. 

Kingdom is further composed of phylum for animals and divisions for plants.
