What are permanent tissues in plants? Name two types of simple permanent tissues and describe their cell characteristics.

Permanent tissues are plant tissues that have lost the ability to divide and have taken on a permanent shape, size, and function. Two types of simple permanent tissues are parenchyma and collenchyma. 
1. Parenchyma: Cells are living, thin-walled, isodiametric, and often have intercellular spaces. 
2. Collenchyma: Cells are living, elongated, and have irregularly thickened cell walls, especially at the corners, with little or no intercellular spaces.
