How do you compare two rational numbers?

Answer
There are three methods:
Method 1: Cross Multiplication For a/b and c/d:
- Calculate a × d and b × c
- If a × d > b × c, then a/b > c/d
- If a × d < b × c, then a/b < c/d
- If a × d = b × c, then a/b = c/d
Method 2: Same Denominator
- Convert both to the same denominator (LCM)
- Compare numerators
Method 3: Decimal Conversion
- Convert both to decimals
- Compare decimal values
Example: Compare 3/4 and 5/6
Cross multiplication:
- 3 × 6 = 18
- 4 × 5 = 20
- Since 18 < 20, we have 3/4 < 5/6
