Does power equal work?
GeneralClass 12AllAnswered 27 Mar 2026
Answer
No, power and work are different:
- Work (W) measures total energy transferred (joules)
- Power (P) measures the rate of energy transfer (watts = joules/second)
- Relationship: P = W/t, so W = P × t
Power indicates how quickly work is done. A 100W motor and 1000W motor can do the same work, but the 1000W motor does it 10 times faster.
