According to the chapter, how would Maya’s life be different in South Africa today as compared to her mother’s life during apartheid rule?

Ans: Today, South Africa is governed by democratic form of government but just before two decades, the country was governed by apartheid laws. In modern South Africa, people are enjoying freedom and there are no restrictions on the basis of colour or caste. So her life would be different from the people before two decades. During apartheid period, her mother suffered a lot. They were not given the right to vote, participate in the working of the government and not to make use of the public facilities. So the life of Maya in South Africa is better than her mother’s.
