We celebrate Holi with great excitement and joy over two special days. The first day is called Holika Dahan or Choti Holi, celebrated in the evening when people gather in their neighborhoods to light a big bonfire. This bonfire represents the victory of good over evil, remembering the story of Prahlad, who was saved by his devotion to God while the wicked Holika was burned. Families come together, sing songs, offer prayers, and enjoy the warmth of the fire, celebrating the triumph of truth and goodness. The next morning begins the most fun part—Rangwali Holi or Dhulandi—when everyone plays with bright, colorful powders called gulal and water. We wear old clothes, fill water guns (pichkaris) and balloons with colored water, and run around chasing our friends and family, covering everyone in beautiful colors like red, yellow, green, blue, and pink.

During Holi, we also enjoy special sweets and dishes like gujiya (sweet dumplings), mathri, and thandai (a cold, flavored milk drink). The festival celebrates the playful love of Lord Krishna and Radha—Krishna used to apply colors on Radha and her friends, which started this wonderful tradition. Holi teaches us to forgive old quarrels, renew friendships, and celebrate spring's arrival when nature becomes colorful and alive again. After playing with colors, we clean ourselves, change into fresh clothes, and visit relatives and neighbors to exchange sweets and good wishes. The day is filled with music, laughter, dancing, and happiness, making Holi one of the most loved festivals where everyone—young and old—comes together to spread joy and colorfulness.
