Ramabai Pandita Ramabai was born on 23rd April1858, in Maharashtra. She was an eminent Indian social reformer and activist. She championed the cause of women’s education. She was a self – made in the field of education. She was given the title ‘ Pandita’ because she could read and write Sanskrit. It is very significant to note that women were not allowed to gain knowledge at that time.

Her major contribution for women’s education was that she established a mission in Khedagaon in Pune in 1898. The mission provided education for widows and poor women and taught them not only to become literate but to be independent . They were trained in carpentary, running a printing press.
