What is the formula for gravity?

Answer

The universal law of gravitation formula is: F = G(m₁m₂)/r²

Where:

  • F = gravitational force between two objects
  • G = gravitational constant (6.674 × 10⁻¹¹ N⋅m²/kg²)
  • m₁ and m₂ = masses of the two objects
  • r = distance between the centers of the two objects

For calculating weight on Earth's surface, we use the simpler formula: F = mg, where m is mass and g is the acceleration due to gravity (9.8 m/s²).
