What is our national emblem?
As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, the national emblem of India is an adaptation of the Lion Capital of Ashoka, which is a sculpture dating back to the Mauryan period in ancient India. The Lion Capital originally stood atop a pillar erected by Emperor Ashoka, and it is now preserved in the Sarnath Museum in Uttar Pradesh, India.
The national emblem features a depiction of the Lion Capital, which includes four Asiatic lions standing back to back, symbolizing power, courage, and confidence. The lions are mounted on a circular abacus, and a Dharma Chakra (wheel of law) is placed in the center. The base of the Lion Capital has a frieze of sculptures featuring four animals: an elephant, a galloping horse, a bull, and a lion. These animals are separated by intervening wheels.
In addition to the Lion Capital, the national emblem also includes the motto of India, "Satyameva Jayate" (सत्यमेव जयते), which translates to "Truth Alone Triumphs" in Sanskrit. The motto is inscribed below the abacus in the Devanagari script.
The national emblem is an important symbol of the Republic of India and is used on official documents, government publications, and various government buildings. It represents the ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity as enshrined in the Preamble to the Constitution of India. Keep in mind that there may have been developments or changes after my last update in January 2022.
