What is a notarized letter?

A notarized letter is a document certified by a notary public an officially appointed officer whose job is to verify the identity of people signing documents and witness the signing.

When you get a letter notarized, the notary:

1. Checks your identity (government-issued photo ID)
2. Watches you sign the document
3. Signs and stamps the document with an official notary seal

Important: the seal does not confirm the contents are true only that the person who signed it is who they claim to be and signed willingly.
