When an acid reacts with base, then a salt and water is formed. When hydrochloric acid reacts with sodium hydroxide solution, then a neutralisation reaction takes place to form sodium chloride and water. NaOH(aq) + HCl(aq)

Such reaction is called Neutralisation reaction.
