How to calculate the 3-phase load?
GeneralClass 12AllAnswered 27 Mar 2026
Answer
To calculate a three-phase load:
- Total power method: P(kW) = √3 × V(line) × I(line) × Power Factor ÷ 1,000
- Per-phase method: Total kW = 3 × V(phase) × I(phase) × PF ÷ 1,000
Ensure you use line-to-line voltage for the first method or phase voltage for the second. If measuring an existing installation, you can measure current on each phase and calculate the total load by summing the power from all three phases.
