Answer
(a) (- 8) + (+ 5) + (- 3) + (- 2)
= (- 8) + (+ 5) – (3 + 2)
= (- 8) + (+ 5) – (5)
= (- 8) + 0 = – 8 [ ∵ (+ a) + (- a) = 0]
(b) (- 7) + (- 9) + (+ 4) + (+ 3)
= (- 7) + (- 9) + (4 + 3)
= (- 7) + (- 9) + (+ 7)
= (- 7) + (+ 7) + (- 9)
= 0 + (- 9) = – 9 [ ∵ (- a) + (+ a) = 0]
