What is Condensation
The process of changing a gas (or vapour) to a liquid by cooling is called condensation where a gas is cooled enough (by lowering its temperature). There its particles lose so much kinetic energy that they slow down, move closer together until they start being attracted to each other and form a liquid. So, when steam (or water vapour) changes into water on cooling, it is called condensation of steam (or condensation of water vapour).It is the reverse of vaporisation. (Boiling)

Global Water Cycle:
- Water evaporates from the hydrosphere [oceans, seas, rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, moist soil] with the sun’s heat and forms clouds.
- The clouds are blown over the lands, where they are cooled enough to drop the water as rain, snow, hail and sleet.
- Rain may fall directly into the ocean also. Some water from rain and melting snow soaks into the ground, and some flows in rivers and returns directly to the seas.
The groundwater comes to the surface again through springs and pumps. It is used in agriculture, industry and homes. This water finally evaporates into the atmosphere. Water vapour added by evaporation to the atmosphere again forms clouds. This completes the global water cycle.
Example of Condensation
A common example is water droplets forming on the outside of a cold glass of water. The water vapour in the air cools when it touches the cold surface of the glass and changes into tiny liquid water droplets.
