Who is the head of State? By who and for what is he/she appointed?

The head of the state is the Governor. The Governor is appointed by the Central Government of India. The main role of the Governor is to ensure that the state government functions according to the Constitution. The Governor acts as a link between the central and state governments and has certain powers, such as giving assent to bills passed by the Legislative Assembly. Although the Governor is the constitutional head, the real executive power lies with the elected representatives, especially the Chief Minister and the Council of Ministers.
