What is Software and its types?

It is a set of programmes which is used to work with hardware. A coded set of instructions stored in the form of circuits is called firmware. There are six types of software as follows:

1. Operating System – An integrated set of specialized programmes that manage the resources of a computer and facilitate its operation. It creates a necessary interface between the user and computer.
2. Utility Programmes – A set of computer programmes designed to perform certain supporting operations such as formatting a disk, duplicating a disk, physically reorganizing stored data and programme.
3. Application Software – User oriented programmes designed for performing certain specified tasks such as payroll accounting, inventory accounting, financial accounting, etc.
4. Language Processors – Software which checks for language syntax and translates the source programme into machine language.
5. System Software – A set of programmes which control internal functions such as reading data from input devices, transmitting processed data to output devices and checking the system components.
6. Connectivity Software – A set of programmes which create and control a connection between a computer and a server so that the computer can communicate and share resources.
