What do you mean by the word “majority” and “the ruling party”?

The concept of majority is very important in forming a government. A political party is said to be in a majority when it has more than half of the total number of Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in a state. This means it has enough support to form the government. The party that has the majority is known as the ruling party. It forms the government, makes policies, and takes decisions for the state. Without a majority, a party cannot govern effectively, and sometimes coalition governments are formed when no single party gets enough seats.
