How many MLA’s are required by party to make the government in a state?

To form a government in a state, a political party must have the support of more than half of the total MLAs in the Legislative Assembly. This is known as having a majority. If a single party gets this majority, it forms the government. If no party achieves a majority on its own, two or more parties may come together to form a coalition government. The party or coalition with the majority selects its leader, who becomes the Chief Minister.
