. What is ‘Golden Quadrilateral’?
Ans. The Golden Quadrilateral is India's largest expressway project. It is the most ambitious project in India which is the extension of the national highways in such a way that it connects all the four major metropolitan cities. It consists of 5,846 kilometers of four/six lane expressways connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. This project is scheduled for substantial completion by December 2004. As of January 31, 2004, 2,482 kilometers have been completed. The major routes of the Golden quadrilateral are as follows:
- Delhi – Mumbai (NH. 8)
- Delhi – Kolkata (NH. 2)
- Mumbai – Chennai (NH.4)
- Chennai – Kolkata (NH. 5)
