Q
What do you mean by a physical change?
A
A physical change is a change in which only the physical properties of a substance change. These properties include shape, size, state, or appearance. In a physical change, no new substance is formed, and the original substance remains the same.
Physical changes are often temporary and can usually be reversed. For example, when ice melts into water, the substance remains water in both cases; only the state changes from solid to liquid.
Examples of Physical Changes
- Melting of ice into water
- Tearing of paper
- Dissolving sugar in water
- Stretching of a rubber band
In all these examples, the basic substance remains the same and no new substance is produced.
